Rediscovering the Waterfront of Livorno, an Urban Renewal Theme.

M y thesis degree in Architecture was about an urban renewal of city of Livorno where the two types of waterfront had to reconnect with the entire city to promote the nominee of the site in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

 

REQUIREMENTS:
The critical issue was to reconnect the central part of the town with its waterfront end its internal waterways. Restore the identity of these places and ensuring that these locations come back to be lived again.

PROPOSAL:
Two kinds of waterfront have been identified and converted in a leitmotif of the entire urban renewal project, acting from territorial-urban planning solutions ending with the details’ design.
A new harbor scenario, a new city’s area, a new “place of living” within the city via the rediscovering of its ancient waterways and the spaces that conceal beyond its retaining walls.
All the operations have been made for the inclusion on the site “Livorno ed i suoi Fossi” in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
